I've seen a few users sharing their tips and tricks to overcome the creative block recently, and suffering from it myself I thought it was worth sharing Brian Eno's solution for it: the oblique strategies cards.
(you can find them as a PDF here: )It is not a new concept as he first released them to the public in 1975 but whenever I found myself stuck in one of these creative black hole days, I started randomly picking one of them and trying to apply its concept to music composition.A lot of you will have heard of it already but for the ones that haven't it's a good way to boost your creativity. Hope this will be helpful to anyone!. I've always wanted an actual set of these. They're definitely soaked in Eno's unique personality. There's a book that the Ableton publishers put out a few years ago (can't think of the name. Plain boring gray hardbound cover) that is also explicitly based on his approach but tailored more toward the specifics. It's set up in three sections, which I think are 'pre-composition,' 'composition,' and 'post-composition,' and you can flip to any page for a little creative boost or suggestion.
I haven't finished it but recall enjoying it from the little bit I read. There’s a block for creative flow (or lack of it!!) almost around every corner. The paths to overcome these could be unique to each and everyone of us - I believe one person can devise them so they could be his.I have a blue notebook that is a basic creative reference. The ideas that go in there are coming from me in moment of creative flow, whether it’s in a bus, dancefloor, at home, shower, in bed. You name it.I jot them down.
And revisit them when blockage hit. Some of them might seem at a particular moment very obsolete, and some or even one could prove helpful to elevate the blockage.Point here that i’m trying to make is that one has to find his way that’s unique to him in order to overcome the creative block.
